Kia ora and welcome

Pourau Incorporation is a Màori Land Incorporation which is governed by a Committee of Management who are elected by shareholders in accordance with the Te Ture Whenua Màori Act 1993 and the Màori Incorporations Constitution Regulations 1994.

Shareholders are descendants of the founding owners, Wiremu Potae and Te Rina Ward, and as such Pourau has remained in the hands of Whanau for more than 100 years. Today the three blocks that make up Pourau are not farmed by the owners, but rather each are leased to strategic business partners with individual agreements which are market based and periodically reviewed.

As the result of an organisational review, the Committee of Management saw the need to transition from a hands on management role (a model employed by most Màori land owners) and adopt a strategic governance role.

This strategic approach has enabled the incorporation to diversify its business portfolio, establish and grow an investment portfolio, plan and resource development, and above all enhance productivity which has been a key driver that has achieved good results for shareholders.
